Island Park building damaged in evening fire continues to smolder

ISLAND PARK — A historic building in Island Park damaged by a fire on Tuesday, January 30, continues to smolder.

Fire crews dispatched to the Chalet building off U.S. just after 7 p.m. Fire crews from the Island Park volunteer fire department and the St. Anthony and Ashton fire departments battled the blaze and managed to put it out before it consumed most of the building, according to Eyewitness News 3.

“It was smoldering real bad, so I got scared called 9-1-1 again,” Jason Thady, an Idaho Falls resident working in Island Park told KID Newsradio.  “They told me that the fire engines just left. But, this morning when I went by and took this picture there was a fire engine pulling in getting ready to [douse] some more water on it.”

Island Park Fire Chief Nathaniel Brandenihl told Eyewitness News 3 the offiical cause of the fire has not been determined, but says it may have started near a wood stove. Officials say
