Officials say the fire is 65 percent contained and they expect full containment by the evening of Monday, August 28.

The fire started on August 25 around 12:30 p.m. Officials evacuated a nearby gun range and temporarily closed Highway 33 over the weekend. They later reopened the highway after successful efforts to push the fire away from the roadway.

The blaze began to advance towards Plano, prompting the Madison County Sheriff’s Office to implement evacuation measures. Residents were allowed to return to their homes a little over an hour later.

Officials with the Bureau of Land Management say the fire is human caused, but have not released any further details about the source of the blaze.
