Wyoming Man Fined for Killing Grizzly

(WYOMING) – A Freedom, Wyo., man must pay $2,500 and will not be able to hunt or fish in Wyoming for a year as a result of his accidental shooting of grizzly bear north of Grand Teton National Park a year ago.  Joe Conger went before Circuit Judge Jim Radda here in Jackson Monday to be sentenced after a jury had earlier found him guilty of killing the bear near Mount Randolph after mistaking it for a black bear.  The case was turned down by federal prosecutors even though it is a federal violation to kill an animal protected under the Endangered Species Act.  They said they made that decision since Conger had not intended to kill a protected animal.
