Lawmakers Work on Charter School Bill

(BOISE) – Lawmakers are working on a bill that would mean fewer restrictions on the number of public charter schools in Idaho. The bill was introduced Monday to undo a 1998 law that capped the number of new charter schools that could open per year statewide to six. Officials say removing the cap is not about creating more schools but increasing the amount of federal funding the state qualifies for. Charter school officials say they don’t anticipate an increased number of schools.
