White House Shooter Competent to Stand Trial

(WASHINGTON) – The Idaho Falls man accused of firing shots at the White House has been deemed competent to stand trial.

Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez was declared competent by a doctor Monday.

But attorneys are seeking more psychiatric testing and evaluation according to court filings.

He has been charged with attempting to assassinate President Barack Obama Nov. 11 when nine shots were fired at the White House. Ortega is expected back in court December 12 where it’s expected prosecutors will seek an indictment.
